This April 17-25, communities across the state will join in the celebration of the 3rd annual Young Nebraskans Week, organized by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED).
Modeled after Young Professionals Week, which was created in 2012 by the Wisconsin group NEWaukee, Young Nebraskans Week is about recognizing and celebrating the young professionals who will lead Nebraska’s economy and communities into the future. Featuring dozens of events hosted at the local level — from speakers and discussion panels to networking extravaganzas — the week is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to spotlight the young members of Nebraska’s workforce across the state.
“Young Nebraskans Week is a chance for communities to get creative and show their appreciation and support for their local youth and young professionals,” said Karrissa Jyles, DED Talent Development Coordinator. “Last year we had an amazing turnout, and we hope even more communities will participate in 2020.”
From networking luncheons to live music and brewery tours, Young Nebraskans Week events are typically arranged and sponsored by local organizations and businesses. Last year in Hastings for example, the week’s festivities ranged from a tour of the developing downtown district to yoga in the park and a community-wide viewing of Aladdin.
“The sky’s really the limit,” Jyles said. “Local organizers can get ideas and inspiration by visiting our website, which is packed with information and resources to help communities get involved and have an outstanding week.”
Jyles said communities who are already planning to participate in this year’s festivities are also encouraged to visit the website — youngnebraskansweek.com — to register their activities and show their support.
